Hollywood rising star Sydney Sweeney is on the verge of stepping into a universe of towering mobile suits and interstellar warfare. Multiple insiders report that the Euphoria and Immaculate actress is in the final stages of negotiations to headline the much-anticipated live-action Gundam movie from Legendary Entertainment.While plot specifics and Sweeney’s role remain tightly under wraps, the buzz surrounding the project has been steadily building ever since the film was first announced. Neither Legendary nor Bandai Namco Filmworks—the franchise’s longtime steward—have issued any official comments at this time.Originally launched in 1979 with Mobile Suit Gundam, the iconic Japanese franchise helped establish the mecha genre in anime, telling complex war stories centered around pilots and their giant humanoid war machines. The Gundam brand has since evolved into a global multimedia titan, generating hundreds of millions annually through television, movies, model kits, video games, and other merchandise.The upcoming live-action adaptation marks the first time Gundam will make the leap from anime to Hollywood’s big screen. Director Jim Mickle, best known for his work as showrunner of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth, is set to helm the project.
